Presenting Oneself to Jesus with no Pretensions

Scripture Text: Mark 5:2

And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

Secondly, in this passage, the man came to Jesus in his dire estate. Both his spiritual and physical estate depicted a man in total depravation. This demon-possessed man came out from a dreadful, awful place, a place where hope is totally void.

In What Manner should we present ourselves?

Scripture Text: Mark 5:2

And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

Here, the emphasis is of the man who met the Lord Jesus in an immediate manner. This was the main clause of the statement of verse 2. It gives emphasis on the man who met the Lord. There are a few descriptions here.

First, the manner in which the man presented himself to Jesus. He presents himself with urgency.  The demon-possessed man, without delay, came to Jesus the moment that he saw Him.  He didn’t hesitate to meet the Lord of lords. And he was able to recognize who the Lord Jesus was.

Jesus' Appointment of His coming

Scripture Text: Mark 5:1

And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

Jesus after a long ministry led his disciples to the place of the Gentiles. They crossed the lake in the direction which he had chosen.  It is not a random place but rather it was the appointed place. A place that no Jews wanted to visit.  Yet, the Lord who is full of mercy has made his appointment.

Confidence in the Written Word

Scripture Text: Matthew 4:4

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Jesus, the author of the written Word of God, declares without apology that the Word of God was and will forever be “written”. This attestation has negated all doubts that we have and forever will have the Word of God in every generation. In other words, the believer can have confidence in the Scriptures. Many try to destroy its integrity, but the Lord Jesus has full confidence in it. By His singular care, He will keep the word of God free from error in all ages.
